Artist Statement
I create sculptures using secondhand wooden chairs or found wood to explore the connection between past experiences and my Christian faith. By repurposing discarded materials, I show that brokenness can lead to new beginnings. I keep the original textures and colors of the wood, allowing each piece to reflect its unique history. Using parts from one chair at a time preserves the integrity and narrative of each piece. A unifying color in my found wood sculptures symbolizes the interconnectedness of experiences and the beauty of different histories coming together. My work invites viewers to appreciate the inherent value in both objects and personal experiences, despite their imperfections.
